Hello,
I'm going to design a Tie-in on existing Firewater ring (in refinery area)between n.2 PIVs.
I need to install a Gate Valve, only for tie-in purpose (valve will be locked open).
Is this GATE VALVE needs UL/FM certification? Is written in some NFPA?

Regards,

Marco

Marco, yes.
If you touch a fire protection system with some component, it must be listed.
For your reference, Chapter 6; 6.1.1.2 . NFPA #13, 2013 edition.

Furthermore, The PIV's referenced are themselves Gate Valves. Your valve must also include a Post Operator.
Even furthermore, there are blocking and restraining requirements that must be included using concrete or specially designed fittings.

Depending on your location, most jurisdiction require the type of work you described to be done by a licensed contractor.

What I am suggesting is that maybe you contact a licensed Fire Sprinkler Contractor for this type of work.
It is Not something you want to self attempt.

If possible, use UL/FM valve for the firewater system should be the right selection. Otherwise, any deviation should be reviewed and acceptable by the AHJ. The non-Listed valve may be acceptable case by case, if they have been used in the existing firewater system in the Refinery.
