Gear & bearing tilt, effect on mesh load distribution 1

Hi All

I am to write a paper on the effect of bearing flexibility on gear mesh force/moment distribution. That is, gear misalignment/offset influences on the mesh cycle. Any help in terms of good resources/other papers, and computer simulation help?

Where have you looked already? Or do you want someone
to do the research for you? Check out Palgren as well.
Check out Stribeck. You are on a long learning curve.
NASA papers might help as well.
 
Is there a specific website that links to NASA papers? I have a few but would like to search through their archives.

Bearing strains are generally so small as to have negligible effect on mesh accuracy. Your concern is more likely deflection in the structure that the bearing is mounted in.
 
If you pick up Harris's book you should find many
resources in the footnotes. Bearing clearance
vs preload and its effect on load distribution and
change in contact angle is where you should be headed.

A. Jones, Analysis of Stresses and Deflections.
R. Stribeck, Ball Bearings for Various Loads.
The guy at NASA I think was Zaretsky, not certain about
the spelling.

Flexibility of bearings, housing, gear blank, gear teeth, and shaft are important. An accurate analysis usually requires FEA. It is common practice to modify both the involute and the helix to compensate for elastic deflections. With proper modifications, if the gears operate at or near design torque, mesh accuracy can be good, but it will deteriorate as the torque deviates from the design torque.
 
The program I am planning to use for FEA is ANSYS. Do you know any good tutorials/manuals out there for this software for this problem?
