Gear meshing problem

Hi Everyone,

New user with an assembly problem involving gears. I'm modeling a rotary engine from a set of plans and I cannot get the gears to mesh correctly in the assembly. I've tried allowing Solidworks to do the automatic calculation and I've tried manually adjusting it but I cannot get it perfect (close but after many rotations you notice the overlap). I know that there is a problem with the gears interfering in some spots, but I'd like to figure out how to get them to mesh correctly before adjusting the design. Also, the cam shaft in the center is stationary as the entire motor spins around the crank. I've attached a simplified assembly with the outer gear ring, inner gear and cam.

Any ideas?

Cheers

First of all, you need to ZIP & post the part files with the assy.

Second, manual adjustment is the only way. There should not be any 'creep' after any number of rotations ... unless you have the ratio incorrect.

Are you use the Gear Mate? This will keep the proper ratio if you input the pitch diameters, but the mesh must start out out with the proper engagement. The gear mate maintains the ratio starting from whatever mesh/mismesh the gears may have. If you are relying on interference/collision/physical mates then you are SOL as the calculations are too intensive for the speed of rotation we want.

I've attached a zip with the files.

The problem with manual adjustment is that it only accepts 2 decimal points and it seems that I had to go to three decimal points to get it right.

Yes I for sure used gear mate.

Here is a pic of the gear assembly:

The outer gear ring and the inner gear rotate around the fixed cam, but the inner gear is off center.
