Gearen

Hi,
I am working for a truck manufacturer so we make big gears. Big gears that are not good to have on you desk and play around with. So, I am looking for gears that you can easy hold in your hand when you want to show and explain gears to somebody or if you yourself are thinking about how things are actually moving around relative to each other.

I have cut up the gear set of two angle grinders that I had and burned up. Luckely one of them had straight teeth and the other had spiral teeth. Both were bevel gears (no offset).
So now I am looking for something that has a small hypoid in them. Are the cardan drive of a motorcycle a hypoid?

I am also looking for something that has a planetary gear in it. Does anyone have an ide for that?

The multitude of cordless screwdrivers/drills sold under the brands of Bosch, Craftsman, Black & Decker, etc. use small planetary gearsets. Companies like IMS Gear ( make small planetary gearsets that have a number of different features like plastic vs. metal gears, straight vs. helical teeth, etc.

there are suppliers like Boston who sell small gears in steel, aluminum & plastic that would make good display sets.
