If a generator is connected to a grid, and the grid is supplying lagging MVAR's (+ve circulating), is it possible to operate the machine at lower excitations and still remain in a safe operating region (as described by generator capability curves) than if the grid were supplying leading MVAR's, i.e. do grid MVAR's add to the reactive power produced by the machine and thus push its operating point towards an over excited state?
