Hi to all,

I was wondering if anybody as worked with this Addon tool for Solidworks, it's called GW3Dfeatures (with new SW2005 interface) (a 15day trial is available)

This software allows more surfacing manipulations in SW, with G1, G2 and G3 Continuity for Surfaces and Curves.

Since we used to work with Rhino (which is very flexible in surfacing)and now we got SW2005 (which as limited surface capabilities), I was wondering how good this tools is versus SW2005 surface capabilities?

I also would like to hear about Shapeworks for SW if anyone as use it!

Thx

I believe I saw a demo for this product several years ago. Too bad their web site is so sterile and reveals so little in the way of images, continuity, interface, etc.

If it's what I'm thinking of, it was created by/for ship builders to get great control over surfaces. It seemed to have the capacity to push/pull surfaces with optional control points and was very flexible.

From my Rhino experience, the tendency to push/pull surfaces into shape without parametry is much more limiting than it seems at first. With some practice in SW using surfaces and lofts/sweeps, you can generate excellent geometry without such an add-in (depending on what you do). I've worked much more with SW and use it exclusively for models and I'm an industrial designer.

I've not used Shapeworks.

Oops. I just found the images on the GeometryWorks. That looks quite powerful.

Might be worth the money if it will reduce time in design and if you use complex surfaces a lot. Make sure you maintain parametry if possible for future edits.

I have used geometryworks for some houres.
It's very powerful in making surfaces , but you HAVE TO pay too much houres to learn and use it , It has a 950 pages manual, and so it will be time consumer.
An experience which I hved obtained befor is that Geometryworks is NOT fully integrated in SW , so be carefull to choose better.

Best regard.
