Hello. First of all thank you all for contributing your engineering experiences. I am looking for geotechnical tools (plastic graduated protractors/rulers) to measure dip/dip direction on oriented core. Does anyone of you know where I can buy those tools. I am located in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Thank you for the attention and your prompt response. Regards, MR

The instrument needed for these measurements is an "oriented core goniometer". Do a google search and you should find a suppier

moe333 - Try the ruler-scale protractors available from Miners Inc. 1-800-824-7452. We have used their $1.50 transparent protractors for measuring the dip angle of rock cores for many years. The parallel lines on the scale permit you to "line up" with the edge of the rock core while your measure the dip angle of the rock.
