Hello, I want to know what is the difference between porosity and the void ratio? what kind of information they provide us ?

void ratio is ratio of volume of voids/volume of solids. porosity is volume of voids/total soil volume.
 
and . . . e (void ratio) = n /(1-n) or conversely, n (porosity) = e /(1+e)
