I was recently laid off from my job and have started my own consulting company. I am in the process of applying for an FAA DER.

I am looking for any suggestions from successful consultants.

Thanks.

Nigel-

We've never met but I know of you by reputation through your work at KFC and, of course, your posts here. (The Canadian aircraft certification scene is such a small community)

I don't have much offer as advice; but in my (albeit limited) experience the big, easy money is in Americans wanting to export high-end aircraft internationally--via Canada. It seems that nearly any airworthiness authority will accept a nice, clean Canadian STC paper trail without comment, but balk at an American plane accompanied by a sheaf of scribbled-on-napkins field approvals. So, you do up some proper drawings, some simple stress reports, issue a few LSTCs on the temporarily Canadian-registered aircraft, and everyone's happy. It seems that most of the stuff at issue is interior installations and avionics. Not a big deal.

I think the consulting industry here could use some capable competition: I wish you the best in your business.

Regards

Yes I hear what you are saying. I am also in the process of applying for Canadian delegation, it is the catch 22 situation. I need to submit some more work, but I am having a problem finding it. I have even considered "buying" a DAR delegation by simply thinking up some good mods and submitting them myself. Unfortunately, my current financial situation wont allow that.

I would be interested to know about you and what you are involved with. Perhaps you would like to email me so we could establish some contact.[ponder]
