getting NX solid parts from .stl files

I have customers who predominantly get .stl files from customers or vendors and they want to use the solid of that "part". Unfortunately, there is no solid when you import a .stl file into an NX file. The result is either an NX facet body or a JT facet body, depending on the option chosen when importing. There are posting of "bring it into this or that software first and then save or export and then open in NX" etc. etc. So what is the best way to get a solid in NX out of that .stl file, even if it's a dumb rock.

What exactly is the intended use of these 'solids' which you would like to 'extract' from the .stl files? Note that there's a limited number of tasks and operations which can be performed directly on 'faceted' models imported into NX, so who knows, you just might be able to use them as is...

As in most cases where users have to use vendor or customer parts brought into NX via non-NX portals, there are edits that have to be done involving changing of hole/shaft sizes, moving such features around, increasing/decreasing thicknesses, etc. So essentially, the classic Synchronous modeling scenario which would also include the application of constraints to enable ease of future editing.

I have an aditional question regarding this. What is the size of modelspace in NX. I mean, what is the maximum size of Model I can Import to NX(through Stp, IGES or Paarasolid)

What is the size of modelspace in NX.

Imagine a cube 1000 meters on a side, centered at absolute (0,0,0). This is your maximum model size in NX. If you have a large model, you will likely have to adjust your view clipping planes to avoid parts of your model getting 'cut off'.

There is NO hard limit as to the 'size' of the NX model 'space', just that we do NOT guarantee the reliability nor the accuracy of tolerance-based modeling operations when performed on models which exceed the published limitations as was described by cowski above.
