Dear all,

I know this has been asked here before, but, has anyone found a way to get the geometry out of a 3D orphan mesh?

I'm working on Biomechancs, get the images from a Magnetic Resonance Image, can mesh the structure somwhere else but need to add a tumour to simulate its effect.

I've tried with PartFromNodesAndElements but get errors and see posts out there that report the same situation. Has anyone out there found a way???

Any kind of help will make me eternally grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Carolina

There are a few ways to do this that are covered in SIMULIA answer 2576 on their support page. Probably the most straight-forward is to convert the mesh to an STL file in Abaqus (6.10) and export to a CAD package that can convert STl files to STEP/IGES files, e.g. Solidworks.

Other than this there are a few python scripts lying around out there than can do the conversion but they're pretty slow and awkward.

If you can it might be easier to add the tumor in the package you used to mesh the MRI? For example MIMICS and 3-Matic will probably allow you to do this.

hi MechIrl!

I'm using 6.9-3, and theres no option to save as .stl. I'll try to get the 10 version. I'm in a Imaging group, so we don't have access to packages like catia or Pro/E...

I (guess) I could place the tumour in the image, segment the whole structure (in Mimics or Seg3D) and mesh it and import it to Abagus. The problem is I have to move the tumour around, so the process would be terribly time consuming....

Anyhow, do you know where to get these python scripts?

Thank you for the info!!!!
