Austin Seven cars, built 1922-1939, used Gleason tooth profiles on the rear axle crown wheel and pinion. We are trying to get a small batch remanufactured for enthusiasts, as the pinion teeth fail in fatigue. I dont know if a modern manufacturer would choose Gleason. Would it be better to specify another gear type, such as Klingenberg, for improved strength, without any compromise? A new CW will only be used with a new pinion, of course. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I would guess any material and treatment nowadays would be far superior to then. Gleason would argue Gleason & Klingenberg vice versa.
It would depend what machines the gearshop has.
Try shot peening after manufacture, this will bump the fatique rating up
