Globe valves with Stem vertical up 3

Due to space constrains customer wants to rotate actuator operated 2" Globe valve 40° with respect to horizontal flow axis during installation, can we advice Globe valve should only be installed with stem vertical please

Based on your short description, I can only surmise that you're receiving the request to rotate the actuator due to an interference in the field (the "space constraints" you mention). As such, installing it in the vertical orientation does not seem feasible.

The way I see it, you have the following two options:

- Allow the customer to rotate the valve as requested, AFTER confirming with the valve manufacturer that the actuator (of which no details were given in your original post) will work as intended. Also, evaluate the need to add a support for the acuator in this orientation and any effect such a rotation would have on your current piping support design for that system.

- Work with your customer to relocate the valve to a suitable location such that the vertical orientation may be maintained. Impacts may include re-running a piping analysis and/or reconfiguring supports depending on the characteristics and design of your system (of which no details were given).

If there's more to the issue than I've assumed, please provide additional information so that I (and others) can be more helpful.

 
For a flanged valve, you may suggest that the valve can be rotated based on the bolting pattern after welded on the pipe. Unless you want to cut it off and re-weld to a special angle, i.e. 40-deg as mentioned. If there is no specific reason, the vertical up orientation should be acceptable because it's simple and easy fix.

I agree with KoachCSR and mk3223. You should confirm with the valve manufacturer that there will be no adverse effects from installing the valve at an odd angle rotation. IMO, an effort should always be made to orient the actuator vertically, and if relocating is acceptable, I would try that approach.

With this valve being socket welded, will there be breakout flanges to provide maintenance? If so, I would also suggest, like mk3223, to rotate at a more acceptable angle for that size & class. A normal straddle for a 2" 2500# flange would be 45 degrees so I would suggest that over a 40 degree angle, as long as it has been agreed that the actuator can be rotated.

Can you provide a little more detail about the "space constraints"? Is it an overhead bypass? Is it an existing line? Can you include a few more elbows in the design to turn away from the constraint? Is this being shop fabricated or field ran?
