Is there a requirement to seal an MC-HL cable (MC cable that is approved for Class I Div 1 use) at the Div 1 and Div 2 boundry? Is so, how is that accomplished?

Thanks,

Seal the cable at the hazardous/nonhazardous boundary and within 450 mm of the enclosure.

There is no boundary seal required for MC-HL. Only the termination in Division 1 requires sealing.

Thanks for the replies. Is there a reference somewhere in the Code that states that MC-HL cable does not have to be sealed at the boundry?

It is indirect. You have to look at the scope of each subsection of 501.4(D)

Section 501.4 (D)(1) states all cables are to be sealed at their terminations.
Sections 501.4 (D)(2) and (3) are for cables “in conduits.”

Type MC-HL and MI are the only “open” cable wiring methods permitted in Division 1. Both are required to be sealed at their terminations. generally, neither of them are in conduits at the boundary so neither of them are required to be sealed there.
