hi,

i have a simple and common problem, unfortunately i only found out about it after i formatted both my hard drives.

i have a sony vaio z600tek, it use to have windows 2k pro, but it was a previous company laptop so it had a login screen, and i could not bypass it, so my brother formatted the 2 hard drives. in hope that he can just install win 98se, which i have on cd.

the problem came when the vaio(laptop) did not recognise the cdrom drive, or at least wouldnt read from it properly.

when i insert a windows ME start up floppy disk, it says:

something like:

installing oakcdrom bla bla bla,

no drives found, aborting instalation. then carries on with the rest and eventually gets me to the command line.

so to summarise:

cdrom not recognised/found by laptop, any help would be much appreciated, as i have just blown 800gbp on this machine.

(ps, i can get exact error messages if required, and any info on system necesary, thanks again)

Dear friend

Please get a boot disk of Win98, and start the pc with the boot disk, than follow thw instructions, selecting the instalation with CD rom support, and insert the Win98 SE in the CD rom. The instalation will beggin.
