Graphics Problem When Mating

I thought I read here or on BBS about this problem, but can't find it. Has anyone run across the problem of when you are mating several of the same parts, other parts in the main graphics screen will partially disappear? They are usually the ones that you want to mate to. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? See attachment.

I'm fairly sure that UGS certifies graphics cards not drivers, but check that link anyway. Let us know what card you have, and maybe we can comment from experience. Try updating the graphics drivers by all means. But first before you so all this why not go into Preferences>Visualization Performance and run the "Evaluate Graphics Performance" tool. You can try a few recommendations that it may make as well, and maybe you'll have fewer incidents of what appears to be display repaint problems.

I've recommended previously that even without spending a lot of money you can get an Nidia GeForce card that will do the job for under $300. Some of these cards may not even be listed on the UGS certification list, whether because there are too many for them to test or because they're erring on the conservative side I cannot say. I err in favor of bang for you buck. Unfortunately some of the best gaming cards have been shown to work badly with NX in the past so the local computer store will probably be of little help.

Also check Perferences -> Viualization Performance... and go to the 'Large Model' tab and see if the 'Hide Objects' option is set. If so, change it to 'Show Object Boxes' as that might be more desirable. You might also try toggling OFF the 'Fixed Frame Rate' option.

BOPdesigner & Hudson,

I have a Dell 380 with nvidia Quadro FX 4500. I noticed that UG did certify newer drivers, so I will try that. I looked several months ago, maybe longer, and I did have the latest driver that was certified. I've also ran the "Evaluate Graphics Performance" before and had no luck with that.

John,

Both your suggestions are already set as you specified. I have spent a lot of time in Preferences-Visualization Performance tweaking, to no avail.

On a side note, I did look this up on GTAC and I saw one other guy that described the same problem, but GTAC gave no answer. Like I said, it only happens when you are adding the same part multiple times, like a bolt. I will try the new driver, since we will be going to NX5 anyway and they specify the newer driver.

I updated to the latest driver and still have the same problem.

Does "update display" or "regenerate work view" do anything? If not then replace view and if necessary then you can turn the shading on and off. This should repaint the model with all the faces. We've had similar sporadic problems in the past, but never anything that we could reliably reproduce. It seems like either the graphics memory or the repaint process gets fouled up.

Now we're also using some fairly well rated hardware which should mean that the hardware isn't as fault. However if you have more than one machine doing this and especially if they are different specs then you may or may not be able to rule out the hardware on that basis.

If you're still having problems after you've checked out all possibilities do two things. Firstly report it and at the same time look to grab a copy of the latest patches in case they may help. Secondly please let us know what you did to resolve these problems, both as a solution if one materializes and as a temporary work around.

Hudson,

Update display doesn't do anything, and I tried regenerate work view once, but I don't recall if that worked. This is happening on other model Dells here with different specs, but newer computers that mine. My work around use to be to make the disappearing part the displayed part then go back to the assembly, but an easier work around that I have found is to replace the disapperaing part's reference set.
