Hello all,

I have been using recorders for logging and fault-finding for many years. Things like Hioki, Yokogawa and so on. Problem is that the ones I have access to have four or eight channels only.

Have tried some LabView applications, but I find them tough to use in an environment where you need local people to change trig levels or conditions. They mostly cannot do it and there is no easy way of "talking them down". So I finally found a "mainframe" recorder - the Graphtec DMS 1000 at a bargain price. It is a very fine machine. It has 20 kHz bandwidth on every channel and it can take up to 48 (some say 52) channels. And it has a quite clear menu system that can be "remote controlled" by me, the phone and a local operator. So, everything is just fine.

But - there is no manual. And there is a card missing (slot 01 - trigger card). The recorder works very well. I can see the waveforms on the display and I can set trig levels. The recorder can be armed and trigs when the level is reached.

I now have a few questions:

A Where can I find a manual? Have been googling, but all I find is drivers and accessories for vinyl cutters. A hard copy or pdf manual is what I am looking for.

B What is the Trigger card in slot 01 doing? I don't have it, but triggering seems to work OK. Or maybe it just seems to?

C I may need to expand the number of channels. Anyone out there that could supply input cards? Googled that, too. But nothing available for a couple of weeks. Not that I can find.

D Is there any special software for this machine? To communicate, set it up and also to analyse the results?

Any pointer in any direction where I can start finding out would be very much appreciated.

Hello skogs... A tough one I see.

Yes, well if my memory serves me correctly here's what you do.

Call: 1-888-318-3247 Extension 2983

Order: Part No. 73801-041 for a User's Manual
Order: Part No. 73804-044 for the Service Manual

Hopefully you've saved enough on your "bargin price" to cover the approximately $50 bucks these each cost.

Cheers.

Thanks nbucska, but that's where I bought the recorder - and there are no manuals and no plugs there - I have been searching worldwide and in every category there is. It didn't work at all. Found nothing on Google either.

Smoked, 50 bucks would also be a bargain. Guess what it cost me to ship it to Sweden! UPS has some "Windsor Royal Super Cargo" class. And I think that's what I paid for...

Will phone that number immediately. Thanks.

Smoked,

I did call them. First time, there was so much static that I couldn't hear what the guy said.

Next time, there was a lady that got confused when I answered "Sweden" when she asked what state I was in. She wanted to find out what state that was so I was put on hold, listening to some guitar music. And then nothing. I think that the phone calls will be the costliest thing of it all - but still a bargain... ;-)

You mind calling them? It would be a great help.

Yes nbucska, I suppose you want to tell me that I am a fool? But I have a problem understanding your sentence.

Gunnar Englund

you are right, it has too many typos...
I question your decision, not your sanity since I don't
know all the circumstances which may justify it.

OK nbucska, I had a problem with the connection. So I sent a nasty comment twice. And that was not at all necessary. I apologize.

Wise decision or not. I got myself a recording instrument that is easy to set up (need that because I leave site after setting it up and have to "remote control" an operator over the phone). And having 16 channels at 20 000 Hz each is real powerful. It was built in 1999 and I own and operate many instruments that are a lot older than that. And if it breaks - I will be in exactly the same situation as with any of my other instruments. Only that this did cost me 9.99 dollars* and the others were around 10 000 dollars each. So my reasoning is that I can take it to the city dump if it fails beyond repair. But why should it? And now it looks like I'm getting the manual. Thanks again Keith!

* Plus UPS "Windsor Royal Super Cargo" fee.

Hi Gunnar;
Re international phone calls;
Check out Packet8.net
I have had good luck with them. You can have a local number that is in the US for incoming calls. Possibly UK numbers also. You will have free calling to the US and Canada and cheap calling to the rest of the world. The phone adapter will work anywhere in the world that you can get a decent internet connection. 28k and ping of 300 or less. I've used mine for a couple of years form Canada to Central America. It is still a local call from Boston to wherever in the world the device is in use. My kid's Grandparents are in Boston. Great to stay in touch with home when you're on the road.
Respectfully

btw Keith, did they find out what state Sweden is in?
