We have a commercial building to renovate and we want to avoid new building materials that contain asbestos by owner request.
An independent asbestos inspector said he recently found asbestos in new insulation from Canada and new floor tiles from Mexico.
When you buy building materials there is no labeling requirement and the MSDA doesn't always tell you.
The only solutions are to obtain an "asbestos free" certification from the manufacturing company or to test the material yourself.
Are there any other solutions such as a "green materials list", consumer reports, etc.?
This question isn't about health risk, rather it's about the material specifications.
The owners say they don't want it (asbestos) in their building materials. That is their right.
Thank you for considering my request.
