I am looking for a type of material that can handle the abrasion of grit blast process. It is basically to serve for masking purpose. I am thinking of using tool steel, perhaps D2 tool steel? Does anybody have any experience on this?

Try googling tombstone tape.

UchidaDS,

Rubber works well for shot/grit blast masking. It is cheap, durable, and easy to custom mold into tight fitting plugs/sleeves/masks.

Urethane rubber, to be a bit more specific than tbuelna, is easy to hand-pour/cast from two-part mixed solutions, and has very good abrasion resistance.

Thanks for all these replies.
I use urethane before, no doubt about it.
For this application, the area to be grit blast is so narrow ( meaning you have obstacle from the source, you have to shot the grit in an angle) and required not to over/under blast the surface. It has only about .25" to be blasted and it is in cylindrical shape.
I don't think that using rubber material I could able to obtain a good seal/strenght to prevent over blast.
