I am involved in the grinding & polishing of Hydraulically pressed concrete paver slabs (called pavings flags) here where I work in Yorkshire.
The issue I am trying to solve is to establish the actual surface finish we achieve. We measure flatness of the slab (the size varies but up to 600mmm x 600mm) & currently a slip skid value (to conform to the BSS (British Standard Specification)
We are now entering a new phase of manufacture with a new machine that will impart a far better / finer finish "polished" shiny that will create a new product.
We need to know how to measure or gauge the grit finish - it appears to be the parameter or parlance to describe the finish that is created by a process that uses abrasive (conventional or diamond tooling).
We understand conventional surface finish measurement (CLA or Ra) as used in the metal machining industries but the means of measuring doesn't have any direct correlation to grit size & its not quite right to measure ground or polished concrete in the metal machining way.
We also know about the Glossiness meter (HORIBA) that use light refraction to gauge the finish using a mirror finish as the de facto standard.
Any conversions or expert knowledge would really be appreciated
