Hello,

im trying to make a rectangular groove in a cylinder. it seems that you can not measure the distance between a face and the groove itself, is there a way to do this? the groove i try to create just appears on the spot where i clicked my mouse, that doesnt seem right to me.

any suggestions or someone knows how to achieve this?

Best regards,

After clicking OK for the diameter/width of the groove, your screen should look like the attached jpeg. It is at this point that you are asked what edge to locate the groove from, after selecting a reference edge you are prompted for a tool edge (either edge or centerline)

Mine grays out also. at this point it is asking you to select the tool edge. Now you need to select either edge of the groove or the groove centerline.

found it! thanks alot!

general tip using this old features and the feature placement command is to use the static wireframe display - some information is hidden from shading
