Background:

The project I am on is investigating the use of multi point ground flares (MPGF) for combusion of relief streams from cracker and aromatics units on a proposed chemical site. Maximum relief rates are of the order of 1000 tons per hour for emergency cases. Some cases include toxic/aromatic components we need to track (e.g. H2S, benzene).
By client request we also have to consider flame-out (even though this becomes very unlikely with multiple pilot design) as well as flaring.

The question:

Many common dispersion models for environmental and also safety cases do not cope very well with the multi-point concept - can anyone suggest either a model (program) or a modelling approach that can give reasonable results without going straight to CFD (i.e. before a decision is made and we get it done properly with CFD by a flare vendor). Extra points if it has reasonable near field reliability :)
