Ground water saturation 2

I have a 28,000 square foot pool/deck sitting 125 feet from the ocean (at mean high tide)which is monolithic. At any given time there is probably 18 to 24 inches of water the shell is sitting in. I do not have dewatering installed but there is a well point matrix installed around the perimeter. The shell base has become a maze of fractures and cracks. I took core samples with results ranging from 5340 to 8330. Personally I believe poor construction is at fault. However, corporate will not spend the half mil to reconstruct and is having trouble with 300K for insitu injection. Has anyone out here had ocean front experience with injection and if so what was the solidifier? I think chemical vice portland would be better at my site since the water level is so high and permeation would be better. Any views??

There are some very good specialty geotechnical foundation contractors in the U.S. that have a great deal of experience with injection grouting. Perhaps the two largest would be Nicholson and Hayward Baker. They both have web sites on the internet through which you can get contact information.

I would call them directly and give them specifics and they will be able to answer intelligently.

Are you really sure that the tidal swings are causing the problem, and that grouting will fix it? Personally, I'm not convinced from your description - unless you drained the pool at some point without adequate dewatering. Lack of underdrains could have allowed excess pressure under the shell bottom when the pool was drained.

What do you expect the grouting to do?

What do the design drawings show the construction to consist of and based upon. i.e. how thick is the pool walls and floor, what kind of reinforcement, what was the basis for the allowable soil bearing capacity and so on? Was a geotechnical site survey ordered prior to design/construction? What kind of information would you have wanted to know before designing the pool - what do you now know and what do you need to know in order to evaluate the situation?
