Grounding MV Cable.

I don't do MV cable much and I'm a little confused on an grounding issue. I have 13.2kv coming form a overhead line going underground to Switchgear. I'm pulling single conductors MV Cable in the conduit. Should I ground the shields just at the Overhead pole or at both the pole and the switchgear? Is a grounding conductor also required for this application?

You should pull a ground wire, so that fault current has another path other than the shields.

It is safer to ground the shield at each end. This can create current in the shield which may require that the cable ampacity be de-rated a bit.

Contact your local Okonite Cable office, or try their website. Their cable installation manual has some good information on shield grounding. Southwire can probably provide the same information.
