If you have two or more rows of shear plates does group tear out apply?

It seems to me that since you included the shear on the bottom plane, that the concept of group tear out is not appropriate for shear plate applications.

I thought I would add another question to this thread since it is on the same topic.

Is anyone out there, familair with light gage shear plates?

I contacted both Cleveland Steel and Portland bolt and didn't find anyone familiar with l.g.s.p.

I did learn however that in the US both pressed steel and malleable iron 2 5/8" s.p. are available. The same is probably true world wide.

The same dapping tool is used for both types of shear plates, so their row tear out value should be equal. Please note that the 2001 & 2005 NDS list the projected area of the 2 5/8" m.i.s.p. as 1.00 sq. in. Since the projected area is based on the groove dimensions, the projected area of p.s.s.p. & m.i.s.p. should both equal 1.18 sq. in.
