As I started with UG (11) in training I have learned to use groups in UG, how they work - . We have had workflows using them, but we don't use groups. Ok -that is along time ago. After years I want to know , for example in the sketcher - why?, when? to use grouping. What are your experiences with groups- for what are groups usefull?
Give me some ideas, benefit of groups.

Don't know about sketcher, but i use groups to keep my part navigator clean and have a good overview of what the different features do to my part, (using the Hide Feature Set Members option in the group menu). Then when working with family tables, i use the feature sets in the table, instead of putting all my features seperatly in the table and have to turn them on or off in the spreadsheet.

@Michäël
I don't thought/talked in this case about feature groups.

I have use Named groups to select multiple objects by name.
Long ago I used named groups to access geometry through GRIP

They're basically a way of collecting objects so that they may be selected together more easily. There are other ways to achieve similar things some of which people feel are more or less appropriate from time to time. When importing data from other files the option is offered to assign it to a named group making it easier to filter the imported from original data for example. You could do the same think with layers or structure your data to be entirely dependent upon the use of components and reference sets. The problem is that many of the alternatives may well be a lot less convenient.

I know of few users who necessarily insist upon a standard for creating particular groups within all of their data, but some who create curve sections for their work would insist upon it. Curve sections created through dynamic sectioning and non associative use of the section tool will automatically group the curves into groups. In my opinion the result from the dynamic section tool has the advantage and begs the question why the two tools differ.
