Hello,
This is my first time in this forum.

For our new project in a waste water treatment plant we installed above ground GRP pipes to transfer waste water.
Now, the client ask for the the reason of the use of GRP instead of Stainless steel 316L.
Because the plant is in the Gulf area (where the sunlight is very agressif and temperatures are high is summer time), I am looking for a report or study showing that GRP pipes are weather resistant and since it's directly exposed to the sunlight, this hasn't any effect on it.

Can you please help me to get such documents?
Thank you in advance.

Walid,

You really need to get this from the vendors as they will be able to demonstrate long term resistance to UV and locations where systems have been in place for a long time. Oman has a large number of systems installed as has australia. I would avoid areas of exposure to sand storms and wind as GRE can erode in those locations and also it needs to be protected from accidental mechanical damage, so suitable barriers may be required at key points.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

If you are worried about UV, a quick lick of compatible white paint does the trick even though the material should be manufactured to avoid UV ageing effects. Review how ISO 14692 treats chalking from UV.

I would be asking the same question. If the costs were comparable then ss should be the choice every time. SS will be there in a 100 years time. GRP will be continually being repaired. In fact a life cycle cost analysis would always put ss in front of GRP.

Maybe the best time to ask such questions is before such pipes are "installed"?

Rconner,
Thanks but item not my game. Could never see the sense of playing a ball game where you have t.o fetch your own ball!
