GSHP Well Loop Questions 1

I have a client that has an existing GSHP system. When I visited his site, he indicted that the pressure in his closed-loop source system drops on a weekly basis (from 10 to 3 PSI). I saw no expansion tank or safety relief valve on the system.

My question is, should there be an expansion tank & air separator on the system? Same goes for a SRV since there is the potential for energy to be added to the piping network from the GSHP's & pumps.

Finally I plan to install a make-up water line w/ a PRV fill valve along w/ a flow meter. If there is a leak, is it worth fixing, as they have about 20 wells.

TIA!

Expansion tank would be a big yes. The temperature in a closed loop GSHP system has a 'large' swing, and everytime the fluid temperature is increased it would blow through the pressure relief valve (I'm hoping they have?).

Air seperator is a good idea, it is really hard to get air out of a closed loop GSHP, with the large amount of make-up water they seem to be adding this will become a larger deal.

I'm not sure what an SRV is... safety release valve?

An idea for make-up water would be a fill station.

I'm assuming there is a glycol, or some form of treatment in the loop (possibly not) but regardless, a fill station would allow them to monitor how much fluid is being added to the system on a daily basis.

Using too many abbreviatioins makes you question hard to answer.. what is a GSHP??

Sorry...although those abbreviations are very common in the HVAC industry.
