I am starting on a project where I'll be introduced to paving and drainage. The little that I have learned so far seems pretty standard and conducive for a step-by-step guide. For example, Step 1. Locate critical tie-in points such as streets, driveways, etc. 2. Create drainage area map. 3. Etc. Obviously, each step would described in detail.

Does such a step-by-step 'guide to paving and drainage' exist?

There are some general approaches that could go by the numbers. But the specific design can't, because you will have to use your own professional criteria.

My first advice to you is to look at your states DOT or Highway Department info. Another source is the FWHA (Federal Highway Admin) - both agencies will have guidelines for paving and drainage.

You will need to research the local codes (city, town, or county) where this project will be built. The locality may have stricter criteria than the state.

Most municipalities will have standard specifications; paving and such are so dependent on traffic expected and uses, not much can be said until the project is located. You also need to look at geotech info, I've done a lot of work that needed subsoils to know what world I was in. (East Tennessee and Florida are both places where the bottom can fall out from under your project.)
