Hi everyone, I have a question about the GWR's fundamental physics.
I guess I am primarily confused about how the wave guide works with a solid stainless steel probe.
GWR's can even follow curved probes, as I understand it.
Does it just work something like an antenna?
If anyone has any useful links or insight they could post, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I use these in our facility. It's all RF theory and is very esoteric. I just accept that they work.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Not my arena, but it looks like GWR probes are more like microwave waveguides, and each change in dielectric constant the wave encounters results in a reflected pulse that the receiver detects and processes the time of flight (ToF) into a distance traveled. Presumably, you need to know the dielectric constants of each layer to get accurate results. Even air's speed of light is different than the vacuum speed of light.
