GUIDELINES FOR CHOOSING THE SUITABLE API PLAN 1

Hello,

Where can I find or someone here can help for a logic diagram to choose the correct mechanical seal API plan (especially 52, 53A/B/C, 54 ) according to the pumped liquid properties.

Have you had a look at API 682? There is a section in there entitled "Recommended Seal Arrangement Selection Procedure" that may assist.

In most cases, the end user together with the seal manufacturer decide which piping plan to use based on site experience, user preference, application, & cost.

Plans 53 A,B C all deliver pressurized barrier fluid to a dual pressurized seal however their operation and how to arrange the make up unit can vary dramatically. This is why when deciding, it's a good idea to review each one and pick which best suits that site.

Be careful because sometimes you may need to combine Piping Plans such as 31 & 53B or 53B & 62 (LP N2)that may not appear in a logic diagram because they are not commonly used. This is where experience comes in.
