Hello all.

Has anyone dealt with whether you can use gyp board or gyp sheathing in a perforated shearwall analysis? I can't find anything in the IBC that specifically disallows this, but I know that the testing was based on wood panel sheathed shearwalls. Additionally, the pertinent sections of the IBC don't specifically reference the table with gyp board and gyp sheathing capacities for perforated design.

I'm leaning towards not using perforated design and using additional hold downs for the individual shear wall sections, but I could still be convinced otherwise if somebody has some experience with this.

Your input on this is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

My understanding is that perforated shear wall design is not allowed with GWB sheathing. I guess the concept is the GWB cannot transfer force around openings the way plywood or OSB does.
