Hello all,
looking for some advice on a project that just came up using the hambro floor system in a 2 story residential home. Contractor wants to add a home lift (elevator) starting on the main-floor up through the second floor (require coring through the 3" concrete composite slab). The lift won't be going to the basement floor onto any footing but sitting on the main floor hambro joists.
The vertical loading of the lift appears to be 6.9kN (on the ring beam, which appears to be on the "ring beam" which would be where the 2nd floor coring concrete location. If I can somehow get this load into the load bearing wall I wouldn't have to think about it too much, otherwise its loading onto the 3" concrete topping and onto the hambro open web joists, which will prompt me to check vertical shear.
My main concern is with the coring of the concrete to allow the lift to pass through the second floor 3.5ftx3.5ft opening. Since this system is composite the open web steel joists would lose its half its top chord. The saving grace is that were near the support and thus the compression load should be minor.
I've attached a few photos to illustrate my situation and looking for any advice how to tackle this situation. Would the suppliers be of any help?
TIA
