What are the typical loads that the human hand can push on a knob or rocker swtich?

I work as a development engineer for AMP - Tyco Electronics located near Harrisburg, PA. I help design interconnections and electrical connectors for aerospace applications.

Recommended for you

It's recommended that for typical types of hand push buttons, you shouldn't exceed 2 lbs of force to activate. However, that's assuming it's a typical operation.

I'm not sure of the recommended force application limits, but I typically see forces of 8-12 lbs to seat electrical connectors. I work in the television industry, working with many types of connectors. Like jagr, I would like to see loads much less this.
