Hard Chrome on Copper Alternative

We've been informed by a contractor the hard chrome coating we have applied to the top surface of a flat copper plate will be phased out in the next few years. I believe it is an environmental/emissions issue. We really like the polished appearance and hardness of the coating.
What are the front runners as an alternative to hard chrome?
