What are the prospects for lowering the hardness of 1018 steel to below 120 Brinell by annealing @ 1550°F? The bar is 200mm diameter.

Sorry, my ASM Metals Handbook Desk Edition is buried in my basement and I need a quick answer :(

My data shows a minimum of BHN 111 by furnace cooling from 1600°F at 30°F/hr until 1300°F then air cool.

ASM Handbook (on-line), Volume 4,
Annealing 1018 steel forging, up to 3 in in thickness.

Annealing Temp Range
1575 to 1650 deg F

Furnace cool at 50 °F/h from 1575 deg F to 1300 deg F

Hardness
111-149 HB

I would use 1625 deg F - 1650 deg F to reach the lower hardness range of 111 HB.
