After a re-install of my STAAD 2003 it does not recognize the hardware lock (Parrallel Port). In the past I had solved the problem by dowloding the latest HASP4 drivers from "Aladin" but it did not work this time. Obviously, talking to Bentley is not an option. I only use the program once or twice per year if that, and I hate to spend all this money for a new licence.

Any help will be appreciated

What operating system are you running? Could this be an issue where the driver for the key is not meant to support Windows Vista or Windows 7 or something like that?

Windows XP.

It worked in the past but when I re-installed Windows XP now I lost it. I have to check the PCI card, LPT port etc. This card was added a year ago just for STAAD but I dont have the drivers and it may well be the problem.

Thanks

If you have installed the HASP 4 drivers for Windows XP from Aladdin and still the OS is failing to recognize the lock, it is most likely your hardware. A simple way to check whether the parallal port is working or not is to attach a printer to it and test if you can fire a plot.

One thing that can help you see how well your computer is recognizing hardware is to go to Windows Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager.

This will usually allow you to see what types of devices are connected to your computer. If the device is not showing up, then it could be an issue with the port.

If it shows up with an error message saying that it is "not recognized" or "not operating properly" then it is likely a driver issue.

Caveat: I have never tried this with one of those ancient parallel port drivers.... It's been a long time since any of my computers even had a parallel port. :)
