Harmonised Standards for CE Mark? 1

Howdy, new member here

I have been charged with obtaining a CE mark for a piece of lab equipment, but my experience with CE certification began yesterday, so to say I'm a newb is an understatement. My goal is to be self certified.

I am having a great deal of trouble finding a list of harmonised standards that are applicable for the directives that seem applicable to my equipment:

2004/108/EC Electromagnetic Compatibility
2006/95/EC Low Voltage
2006/42/EC Machinery

I think that EN 61010-1:2001 and 61326-1:1997 may be applicable, but I'm very reluctant to start ordering standards willy nilly. I've tried searching but haven't found any working links. Can anyone guide me to a list of harmonised standards, or at least guide me in the direction I need to go?

When it comes to CE Marking the term "self certification" is not always representative of reality.

In order to apply the CE Mark on your equipment, you will need to interpret which Directives (no doubt the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC, the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC and potentially others...) apply to your equipment, but also which EN standards apply and how to interpret them. Some of these standards are "test" standards which are no use to you unless you purchase or rent the test equipment (at great expense).

An accredited third party will save you time and effort by performing the CE Certification for you.

I agree with Peter. Useing a 3rd party will save you time and effert. I have been thru the process, CE marking Gate Valves per PED. I would recomend hiring a 3rd party, at least for your first run at CE marking.

If it is lab equipment you will need 61010. It lists some of the other standards you will need. Don't forget to look at the part 2 specs. If you are doing EMC you will need to use an EMC lab. Ours also does full certifications and has advised us on which standards apply to our equipment.

Edition 3 of 61010 was just released in June.

The guys at IHS or where ever you buy the spec may help but I have never talked to them.
