Below is an e-mail I received Friday from a group called the Training Summit. I have to give this guy credit: He's running a scam and I could only find one blog that he's a phony. Then again I'm a cynic; or maybe it was the gmail e-mail address that made me doubt.

Hi ________,

I am writing to find out if you are able to accept an offer to participate in our unique forum. The Training Summits is offering an opportunity for you to expand your professional development, collaborate with peers, and increase awareness of new methods and best practices. Over the years we have become the premier virtual organization for Training and People Development leaders and professionals.

Our organizaion meets every month throughout the year. The virtual Summits are one hour teleconferences, consisting of a 45 minute presentation and a 15 minute Q&A/Collaboration period. Zurich Insurance will be the next organization to present its best practies.

"You can request a full refund."

You can request whatever you want, doesn't mean you are going to get it.

Their e-mail says membership by invitation only but if you go to their website anyone can join. I also noticed on their website that they don't identify anyone in their organization.

Okay--

A high-powered, professional organization that uses a Gmail email address? Come on, folks! I have a website or two and own a few domain names and using one for email concerning a particular website's correspondence is NOT difficult. Seems like they'd have at least done that one little step.

Failure to do so makes it look like a fishing expedition.
