Haul trucks in crusher area

Hello fellow miners,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience designing the area in which an ore crusher is located, and is being fed by haul trucks. I'm just looking for any standard practices or guidelines that might be used in this scenario. I assume the area would look somehting like a residential crescent and that the truck would approach and leave along the skinny end and manouver in the round end and that truck width and turning radii would dictate the size of the areas. Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated.

You normally start with the dump hopper (crusher feed) and work putwards. Size of hopper, is it covered (often reauired for environmental or climatic reasons), how many trucks dumping at once (side by side or on adjacent sides), any truck waiting area, is it built into the side of a hill (often the case), and similar.

The approach is usually dictated by the direction of the pit from the dump station and the terrain. Remember that BIG trucks need a lot of room.

Some of the above often means that it is more rectangular then semicircular. Actually area available will usually dictate, as earthwork costs money.

So start with the hopper area and orientation, lay in your truck turning radius and dump locations, add in breakdown areas and waiting ares, lay this on to the topo of the area at the top of the hopper, and then figure out the minium earthwork to accomplish. You wil often have to re lay it out several times for best fit.
 
The bare minimum is a single lane ramp with a "T" at the top for trucks to drive into and then reverse into the dump pocket. This is only suitable if you are happy to dump into only one side of the pocket and have only one truck at a time on the ramp. Beyond that it depends on the factors Koalmnr mentions above and how much of a ROM stockpile you want and how close to the crusher you want it. If the ROM stockpile pads and crusher ramps can be built of pre-stripped waste, then the cost is less than if they are built out of construction fill, and a larger area may not incur significant marginal cost.
