CATIA V5R18

In the advanced machining workbench within an MO, I seem to have lost my Edge Selection toolbar.

Before you ask, Yes. I have checked under all the chevrons and I have checked to make sure that that it is toggled on.

I have tried Tools/Customize, Restore All Contents and Restore Position.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Don't know if this is your problem but I have had some issues with lost toolbars. Beside restore positions and reinstalling corrupt installation I had a problem with monitor resolution. Apparently the catia wants at least 1280x1024, when I used lower res once I had toolbars missing and restore didn't help due to it was in lower corner, like catia thought it was 1280 but it was cropped.

So if you have a low resolution, try to increase it and look for your lost toolbar... yes there is another thing that have me had with lost toolbars, mulitple screens when the toolbars are on the other screen hidden behind windows and this have happened even when my laptop was undocked, somehow windows thought I had two screens, go figure..

my 5 cents..

Thanks Azreal,

Unfortunately I don't think that is the problem. I run two monitors at 1600x1200 (or 3200x1200 combined) and I have tried changing resolutions and moving things around.

At this point I think I am going to have to reinstall. We had an "upgrade" over the weekend and I am afraid that it didn't go quite as planned.

Yep. At 800x600, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200.

I've been answering these same questions with our IT department and they have yet to come up with something new.

Thanks for trying. I'll most likely be reinstalling this afternoon if nothing else works.

David - save yourself the re-install, delete your CATSettings directory and start Catia.

I wish I would have started a running commentary of what I have already tried from the start. I have tried deleting my catsettings folder with no change.

thanks

Hmmm. Has your admin changed any of the Admin settings lately? It could be that one of the master Admin Settings has been corrupted (or just changed) and is preventing you from fixing it yourself.

Have your admin delete DialogPosition.CATSettings and FrameConfig.CATSettings files from the CATReferenceSettingsPath folder. Better yet, if he's a good admin he archived the old settings first. Just have him restore the ones he had before he changed them.

Otherwise, make sure you are deleting the correct settings folder - it may have been changed in your environment and is saved somewhere you aren't expecting.

Catiajim,

Are those CATSettings files local to my system or would they be located on a network server somewhere? The reason I ask is that the problem seems to be local to only my system. I had IT perform a "complete" uninstall of CATIA on Friday and reinstalled over the weekend and I have seen no change. I am wondering if there are perhaps some CATSettings located in an administrator folder on my machine that were not wiped by their script.

I've forwarded your suggestion on to those with more knowledge.

After spending 2 years administrating 20+ seats of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, it is frustrating to not have the authority or knowledge to fix my own software but such is life.

Thanks for the help.

David

Check the start icon which catenv file (catia enviroment) it's using, if you start with a bat file, open it and check where the catenv file or catsettings are referenced.

as Azreal says Look at shortcut that you use to start CATIA
This will contain Env name & the path where it can be found

Goto location look at env file
CATUserSettingPath defines the location of your user settings go and trash these. Does it make it better?

if not then the problem is with the admin settings pointed to by the CATReferenceSettingPath.

it is unwise use setting from a previous version as either user or admin settings, they should be remade specifically with the version in question

Sorry for necroing here, but since this is a recurring problem I thought I could chip in.

Disappearing toolbars is a PITA. My best fix for this is to make a backup of all the CATSettings once you've set them like you want in case of such problems as you describe here. This does not however help much in your current situation...

Is the missing toolbar a workbench specific toolbar? So that for instance you can only see it when in Part Design? Is your toolbar custom built or a system native one? Does the toolbar belong to a third party add-on? (If the latter is the case the catia environment file may have changed so that catia no longer is aware of where to find the compiled toolbar.)

Have you tried to use another user's CATSettings files?

I've had a similar problem in Advanced Machining and other workbenches. What happens is the tool bar appears as a very small dot (period) until you enter into an operation where the tool bar is needed, then it expands. The edge selection does this, as does some other toolbars.
