Having hidden line issues TT 1

Created a model. Then went to layout and setup 4 equal viewports. Have tinkered with hideplot on/off, tried messing with solprof, soldraw, and solview. Cannot get the hidden lines to appear dashed. I have the new layer created by solprof PH-xx, and changed linetype to hidden. When i click the line, the toolbar shows that its linetype is 'hidden', but it appears solid.

Ok, so next moving onto ltscale i tried everything and it still appears solid (and also prints solid). Changed to a different linetype like fence, and those work fine. The only way I can get the hidden lines to be dashed are to explode the entire object, then i can individually change them to show dashed. Even when exploded, a few rogue lines refuse to go dashed. This is not good

I think i'm missing something very obvious, drop me a clue, thanks!

thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, i tried it and it didnt solve the problem. If anyone could perhaps write a short step-by-step of what they do to say, for example, model a rectange with a cutout, then create an orthographic printout (front,top,side + isometric view) WITH hidden lines, I would be immensely grateful.

Im hoping maybe im just doing something wrong in the creation process. Autocad is not my forte as far as CAD goes.

For reference, what I'm doing is.
-Create model in "model" window using extrudes, subtracts, etc.
-Click the layout tab
-Clear the paper if there's something there already.
-Click on viewports and do the 4-equal ports, set it to 3D, and then choose the views for each of the 4 windows.
-Type 'solprof' in the command line, answer Y,Y,Y to the 3 prompts.
-Notice new layer PH-xxx, go to Format > Layer. Then select 'Load' to load "hidden" linetype.
-Set PH-xxx layer to "hidden" linetype.

I think im doing ok up to this point. Now I'm expecting to see something that looks like an engineering drawing, but instead its still all solid lines. I could really use guidance, thank you for any advice.

Instead of using "solprof" to create the top and the other two views, use "solview", and "soldraw instead. Then you should be able to change the layer linetypes.

to get dased lines drawn in model space to appear in Paper space, I select the lines, hit the properties button and change the scale to 0.00002. They then appear. Of course, they then become solid lines in Maodel Space.

Is your drawing in 3D? if so print it in Model space-not paper space.

Another option, though I don't think it is very useful, is the OBSCUREDLTYPE and OBSCUREDCOLOR variables. They control what AutoCAD does when you use the HIDE command.

The main drawback is that is it a global setting, so if you set them to show dashed hidden lines, every viewport will do this. Another drawback is that it dashes lines with the gaps all arranged in a row vertically and horizontally, so that on an object with a lot of hidden lines, this pattern becomes very distracting visually.

Finally, you can play with the plotter pen settings. You can choose a color to be printed with a certain linetype.

Note that my experience is only up to verion 2002, it is possible that other options exist on later versions.
