Having IGES translator problems... 1

I'm having some real problems with my CATIA IGES translator.

Basically, my geometry, no matter how I specify it, is coming out as GARBAGE! I can read it fine back into Catia, but not into anything else.

"Save as" is the worst. Doing a Utilities Batch save, I can get better, but nothing perfectly yet. We're not talking about hard parts, either. I seem to be able to screw up just about anything with Catia to some other system.

I know it's not native read problems, either. The same problems occur in SolidWorks, AutoCad, UG, and Pro/E. I've tested my data in all of them. I'm clearly the problem.

Thanks....

Sounds like you have bad IGES data. Are you the author of it?

If you are the author, have you tried different tools options? What kind of geometry do you have and what system are you trying to send it to?

I'm not getting IGES data, I'm creating it. The systems I'm sending it to are listed...

The data is native V5, going to *anything else* It's just pure sh*t coming out... NO matter what kind of file.

What default tolerances do you use in the batch tool? Can you send a screen shot of the panel? (you know how to reach me)

Thanks.

This is what i have to do.

Set tools/options/compatibility/iges/export to Standard, Wireframe, and Millimeter for wireframe iges or B-Spline, Surface, and Millimeter for surfaces/solids

Do a save-as to create the iges, load iges into catia and resave to iges file. This has worked for me.

Another tip, though I don't think it applies here. Often times when I IGES out an assembly, things get exported in the wrong place (I think this has to do with varying axis systems). Doing a Product to Part first remedies that problem.

It does not apply to this situation, but I appreciate the tip. I will keep it in mind.

Thank you.

Configurator,

How can you do a Product to a Part?

-Hora

Under the Assembly Design Workbench, it's under TOOLS, CREATE PART FROM PRODUCT.

In R13 and earlier, you need to set the following environment variable:
IRD_PRODUCTTOPART=1

In R14 and above, this functionality is included without the variable.

Thank you catiajim. I set up the variable IRD_PRODUCTTOPART=1 and I can have acces to the command, but the OK button of the message box where you fill in the new name for the part is not active. Do you know what I missed? Running V5 R11

You've got a "*" from me.

-Hora

Select the Product you want to convert, and the box fills in automatically, and the OK button becomes usable.

Thank you again, it worked. I didn't select the product. I thought it will export the top level.

This method does not work, and you should be very careful using it.

Here is the report that I got from the output, using your method...

While this might not mean much to you, what it tells me, is that the part is deformed via the translation. I can verify this, because any attempt to rejoin the part, requires extremely liberal tolerancing, which lends itself to deformation. (especially when being "tranlsated")

Thank you for taking the time to post this, but what I will give you in return, is a warning to be VERY careful when you do this. This could potentially get you into trouble. I've also seen the parts, so it's a double confirmation for me...
