I am curious as to what websites others are using to quantify liquids, gasses, etc for hazmat purposes. There are quite a few government and university websites, but the ones i have found are not that great.

Anyone know of any good computer based programs? I dont mind paying for the program. My main purpose is to classify comb/flam liquids as far as open/closed use, amounts, etc. So if there is a program out there where i can input the data, and it can list the liquids, amounts, use type, etc and whether MAQ's are exceeded in a table based format, I'd be greatful to hear about it.

I have looked at the ICC, Hmex CD Rom, but that appears to provide physical data only and not the full data set i am describing above.

This program may not exist, but i figured it doesnt hurt to ask.

The 1st version of HMEX would allow one to build a report for the situation you described. The problem was/is the number of variables that must be considered. It's easy for software to perform "plug-and-chug" like doubling of MAQs for sprinklers or cabinets. Now the software would need to consider what floor level the hazmat is located on or special conditions like flammable liquids in basements, or fuel oil storage per the requirements in CFC Chapter 6. The other problem with the report writer is it doesn't present all the required compliance issues. I could generate a report where 50 gallons of acetone and 100 pounds of 24% hydrogen peroxide were below the MAQ and some jurisdictions would permit the installation. The problem is hydrogen peroxide is chemically incompatible with acetone.

The developer of the software decides the hassle and liability was too great. Versions 2 through 6 of HMEX now are limited to chemical classification only. I have HMEX 5.0 on my laptop and it works great. I've talked with the software developer and provided him with scientific papers for a few hazmats so the classifications are more accurate.

Thanks Stookey. Good points. Lots of variables to contend with, so a program that can do it all is wishful thinking. I will purchase the latest ver of Hmex.
