BS EN 60079-14:1997 requires that no solid obstacle which is not part of the electrical apparatus shall come within a specified distance to a flameproof flange (e.g. 30mm for IIB Gas Group).

Would anyone know if there is any flexibility to this requirement, e.g a small bore pipe (10mm O/S diameter) 10mm from a EExd motor terminal box which itself is 150mm square.

Thanks,

Alan

Suggestion: Normally, flexibility would be interpreted as an exception. The exceptions are stated.

Jbartos,

In my copy of the BS EN there are no exceptions stated.

I would be interested to know if there are exceptions in the IEC version & the soon to be published BS EN?

Alan

BS EN standards are almost inevitably verbatum restatements of the IEC standard. The only standard I have ever encountered that takes exception to the IEC standard is UL 60601-1.
