Hazardous Locations - Paint Shop

Not sure this is where this belongs, so forgive my unfamiliarity with the forums.

Question: Have a 60'x40' Paint Shop / Sand Blast Building. Building is open on both ends, with a 16' roof. Want to install 110V receptacles inside the building. Currently designing standard receptacles 48" above grade with a seal-off within 12" of each receptacle. What are the requirements (Class / Div) and is explosion proof receptacles necessary?

Canadian Electrical Code defines the hazardous classification of spray booths in Section 20-400. There are more requirements than I am prepared to type here. The NEC should have similar requirements in the US. Refer to the code and local ordinances. If in doubt, retain a qualified consultant.
 
in UK, spark proof / intrisically safe equipment required, suspect same where you are.Sugest contacting local authorities for confirmation or simply telephone a local electrical contractor who should be aware of laws/regulations in your area.
you might want to check with your building insurers also-they may have an input.
 
From a quick read of the NEC Article 500, I don't think that your idea of 110 V receptacles is going to fly. From my reading, the paint spray area is a Class 1, Division 1 location (Article 500-5(a)). Flexible cords are allowed for utilization equipment, but, among other requirements, they must "...be provided with suitable seals where the flexible cord enters boxes, fittings or enclosures of the explosion-proof type"(501-11).
My suggestion is that the receptacles probably need to be located outside of the area - you can't have a potential ignition source inside, unless it is in an explosion proof enclosure. You didn't say what the receptacles were intended to power, but that equipment also needs to be explosion proof & approved for Class 1 div 1.
