HD3D custom report directory: environment variable?

John Baker shared a nice template batch file back in this thread: thread561-272953 which included a setting for an environment variable which would ostensibly allow specifying a directory for custom HD3D Reports. Here's the excerpt from the batch file:

rem (this is for starting with NX 7.0) If you wish to keep a common
rem library of customized visual reports for use with HD-3D, fill-in
rem the variable below and remove the 'rem' from the start of the
rem line.

rem set UGII_DISPLAY_SCHEME_DIR=<path to the visual report folder>

I tried this out, specifying a folder where we have a custom visual report spec saved. But when I launch HD3D, I don't see the report in the drop-down list of Reports. I can, of course, "open Report from Native File System" and go find the report file. But I'd like the custom reports to just appear by default in the list.

Any idea what needs to be done to enable this?

I think the environment variable was only valid in the very earliest release of HD3D. Now the paths to your templates are set in...

Customer Defaults -> Analysis -> Check-Mate -> HD3D

John,

While looking for something else, I just noticed that in NX8 there is also a new setting area:

Customer Defaults > General > Visual Reporting

with subtabs: General and Reports

This looks suspiciously like the setting I was originally looking for (HD3D reports directory). What is the difference between these settings, and the Customer Defaults > Analysis > Check-Mate > HD3D settings?

Yea, I see that extra Customer Default entries, but I'm not sure what extra value they are providing. Also they appear to be embryonic with more to come. You may have already noticed, but with each release we are adding more and more options to HD3D and visual reporting, such as linking it tighter to Check Mate and other tools. You will also note that we have added a dedicated 'Visual Reporting' toolbar where you can quickly initiate a pre-defined report.

John,

It looks like the correct setting is actually in the "new" area I found, and not where you'd suggested (no offense). If you have a custom visual reporting Report you'd like to appear along with the out-of-the-box defaults in the drop-down list, you should add your folder in:

Customer Defaults > General > Visual Reporting > General

If you want ONLY your custom Reports to show up in that drop down list, then add your folder to:

Customer Defaults > General > Visual Reporting > Reports
