Header for brick on wood structure

Is it true that a wood header is not allowed to support brick veneer? How would you support a 20 ft opening with 16 ft high of brick? Assuming that the entire building frame structure is made of wood. (Would an LVL qualify?)

Consider "arching" action of brick if running bond.
Some jurisdictions allow steel angle bolted to wood member.
Provide steel beam with plate (and braces).

If I provide a beam that will be subject to torsional loads, should then provide also a steel column, which will be an entire steel frame at each opening?

A beam that will be subject to torsion:
1. brace beam to element that can handle hor/vert load
or
2. design beam & connections for torsion
