Curious what you all do for a custom residence with a lot of long span top hung doors that pocket or have pocketing shades. Typically, our approach is one of 2 things.
1) If we have a minimum of a 2x4 wall on either side of the pocket we run headers on both sides and ladder block between as required to attach the track.
2) If we have a 2x flat furring wall on the inside of the pocket we typically run a full length header down the center of the pocket. Depending on the size of the build-up this can require a lot of furring to flush out at the outside face.
Is there a better way? With deflection requirements of L/720 or 1/4" max of some of the expensive doors these headers can get pretty large.
