Yeah I thought it was crazy too but I tell you these guys are going to change things.... it's going haywire here in NZ at the moment.

So this is how it works... you register yourself and your work experience and qualifications etc.

Then you put yourself in the market and say what you're looking for - the type of job / where you want to work / what rosters you can do AND what is the minimum pay that you would consider to change jobs.

Companies then come and bid for you! So instead of going through hundreds of ads on seek you can plug your profile in and get back to work!

The best thing I think is that they say it will always be completely free for the job seeker. You can see what offers you get while working for a company as it's completely anonymous up until you accept a bid from a company.

They'll open the market once they've got 10,000 and they just reached 5,000 in like two weeks. Worth checking out! fifobids.com

And no this isn't a selling pitch but exactly what the title says - a helpful tip for people like me tired of wasting time on applying for jobs.
